Hansjörg Grützmacher, born 1959 in Hamburg, studied and earned his degree in Chemistry at the University of Göttingen with Herbert W. Roesky (1986). He worked with Guy Bertrand at the Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination in Toulouse (1987), was nominated Privatdozent at the University of Heidelberg (1992), and joined the faculty of the University of Freiburg (1992 -1995) before he was appointed at the ETH where he is full professor since 2001. He has lecturing as visiting professor at the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris-Palaiseau (2001 - 2006) and at the Université des Antilles et de la Guyane (2004, 2005).
